Summary
Many are older couples in extended families, with adult children helping to make a living. They have worked hard throughout their lives. With low incomes and conservative values, Older and Bolder are most concerned about the well-being of their family.
Walk with Me
I have just turned 50 and my birthday gift is my first grandchild! With my husband and my son both working at our little poultry farm and Sari resting after 11 hours of labor, I get to play mother again.
This little thing reminds me of Shinta and her first day in this world. But she’s married now and gone to Jogja with her husband. I wonder what the future holds for this little thing? My favourite is classical gamelan music. So I’m going to teach her how to sing. She does not need my bad habits, I watch too much sinetron on TV.
As a family, we’ve been through a lot together. My husband is a good man, simple and honest. I have learned to be fearless. Today nothing daunts me. The neighbours have recognised my ability to see things clearly. When the neighbours come over with a bowl of food I know it’s because they want a favour. They need some advice. Advice for dinner is fair trade!
