Walk with Me
What a difference a good politician can make. Without patrons, traditional culture cannot have a future. In the old days it was the Sultan that took care of us artistes. Thanks to this government, our little school, not so far away from Madura, gets a special fund for the performing arts. I am a dance teacher trained in the classical form. And now my students are invited to Surabaya for the Independence Day celebrations at the Governor’s Mansion.
My husband Arman will be coming with me and we will stay overnight with his cousins. We’re taking both our kids. We asked Arman’s parents to join us but they say they’re getting too old. I think it’s because they don’t want us to spend the money. They always find a good excuse to stay home. This time his mother said somebody has to look after chickens.
It will be a good break for Arman, away from the corn fields.
