Born to poverty and likely to stay there. This is the unfortunate position of the small minority who remain at the bottom of the Indonesian heap. Subsistence farmers and micro business owners, these rural folk do it tough every single day. Not very sociable.
Walk with Me
It’s harvest time. Just like last year the rain’s been very late this year too. The men have tried to feed the canals with new bore water but those are running now. This is the time of year when we earn real money harvesting the crop waiting for the bonus. If the rains don’t come soon we will have trouble feeding the family. Herman says he will have to leave us and go to the city to look for a job. Life is not fair. I wonder what those people in the government do. Aren’t they supposed to take care of us. The politicians only come here when it’s election time. Even God has abandoned us.
It looks like it’s going to be Mie Sedaap again for dinner tonight.
